Wholesome thick Butter Milk (Mattha)

"Just as nectar is the giver of delight to the gods in the heaven, thick butter milk is the giver of delight to the human beings on earth."

Mattha is prepared by churning curd with water mixed in 4:1 ratio. Fresh Mattha strengthens digestive system. So, food is properly digested if one takes Mattha during and after the meal. It is like ambrosia for those who suffer from loss of appetite, indigestion, acidic eructations and uneasiness caused by flatulence in the stomach.

Consumption of Mattha strengthens the heart, purifies the blood and especially regulates the functions of duodenum. It is highly beneficial for those who donot like milk or cannot digest it.
Mattha from which butter is separated is pathya for sick persons, because it is easily digested. If the butter is not separated it becomes heavy to digest. It is beneficial to take mattha with a dash of dry ginger and rock salt in case of excess vata; with dry ginger, black pepper and long pepper when there is increased kapha.

Mattha is good as nectar in the winter season, loss of appetite, vata diseases, aversion to food and obstructions of nadis. It destroys dysentery, piles, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, anaemia, obesity, enlargement of spleen, worm infection and thirst.

Taking Mattha mixed with Ajavayin and black salt cures constipation.
